Interior Design Trends for 2022

Let’s take a look at the design trends for this year. According to the experts, design trends for 2022 revolve around a return to nature.

After so much time spent indoors over the past couple of years, people want the warmth, visual comfort, and the calming effect of nature given by an earthy brown and green color palette. Furthermore, they desire products made of natural materials, such as wood furniture, to “experience” the outdoors while inside.

Let’s take a look at what some interior designers have to say:

The all-white minimalist look is out, but Athena Calderone, the founder of Eyeswoon, promises that the color palette “will stay very close to hues you’d find in nature.” Calderone states that, because of lockdowns, “we’re all seeking to strengthen our connection with nature” which has inspired a “resurgence in natural surfaces.” She adds that objects made of natural materials add “depth, soul, and visual intrigue while also mimicking the calming, restorative ambiance of the outdoors.”

“I foresee warm neutrals and textures displacing stark white decor and cozying things up a bit this year.” Especially after COVID-19, “people want to feel cloaked in comfort and warmth.” – Haley Weidenbaum, Founder of Everhem.

“With folks looking to bring a little magic into their lives after a couple of very tough years, I see earth‘s magical wonders taking center stage.” – Justina Blakeney, founder of Jungalow.

While predicting warm wood tones becoming popular in 2022, Mary Beth Christopher, principal designer at MBC Interior Design, says, “We are nesting right now. We need comfort, coziness, and warmth.”

Ginger Curtis, owner and principal designer at Urbanology Designs, believes that design trends reflect where we are as a society. She says, “People need healing spaces that are restorative and calming.” Therefore, in 2022, Ginger expects “nods to nature—with earthy colors, natural materials and lots of “outside inspiration” to be brought indoors.
