Captain Chairs
Who doesn’t love an elegant reading room chair? We sure do! We were delighted to work with the University of Michigan on their renovation project. The renovation was one of the best decisions University of Michigan made for its college. The University of Michigan came to Eustis Chair with a common problem. We were more than happy to help. Their chairs were breaking after decades of hard use. The chairs had weak joints and the wood was splintering. The old chairs could not stand any more years of use without completely falling apart. Moreover, the University of Michigan’s renovation project was for their Law Library Reading Room.
The beautiful Neo – Gothic style room has over 350 wooden captain chairs. They were made with traditional mortise and tenon construction. Furthermore, mortise and tenon joinery is sufficient, but not nearly as strong as our custom joinery. The University wanted us to build an exact reproduction of their previous chairs. However, they wanted the new chairs to be engineered with our patented Eustis Joint®. Our Captain chairs will last even longer than their original chairs. With our patented joinery, the chairs will last decades, also guaranteed to last 20 years of tough wear and tear.
