We adapted our Arts & Crafts back design to the Bartlett Hall chair frame, to create a new stackable chair that met the client’s design preference. This is a good example of how we can adapt our existing designs to fit a wider set of stylistic requirements. Like many of our arm chair designs, this chair started as a side chair: a stackable Arts & Crafts chair for a renovated dining hall for the University of Chicago. Our designers have done a nice job of preserving the period look of the chair, while also allowing these elegant arm chairs to stack up to six chairs high. Exeter Modular Pew Click for a larger view. A New England prep school needed an alternative to traditional church pews that would provide them flexibility in the use of their 200 year-old chapel. Boston architect Hoyle Doran & Berry designed this elegant modular pew, but found that conventional joinery was not strong enough to meet its unique requirements. Merrimac Click for a larger view. The Merrimac is a slight design variation on the Bainbridge Jr. chair, requested by Boston architects Amsler, Mashek, MacLean for the Merrimac Public Library. The Top Back of the chair and the tops of the Back Posts are curved instead of square. This seemingly minor change has a significant affect on the overall look of the chair, which is now as much Transitional as it is Arts & Crafts. We are often able to make minor design changes like this with no additional cost to the client, helping create a library or function room that is not only elegant, but also unique. Monterey Click for a larger view. The distincitve Spanish Revival design of this chair was taken from several turn-of-the-centry chairs found in the Monterey area of California. The designers at UC Berkeley wanted a special look for their newly renovated Clark Kerr Dining Commons, and were delighted to learn that we could produce a statckable chair as elegant as this that can withsatnd the rigors of a college dining hall. This stackable chair was designed for the University of the Virginia's Special Collections Library, and represents our newest and most contemporary stackable chair. New York City architect Ronnette Riley wanted a chair with narrow rails and no stretchers that could withstand the rigors of daily library use. We used our patented Eustis Jointฎ throughout the chair, and were able to achieve an elegant design that is both lightweight and durable. Willard Chair Click for a larger view. For this design we combined the seating geometry of our Monterey stacking chair with the comfort and transitional elegance of our Charleston chair. The clean lines of the Willard make it a good fit for either a traditional or a more contemporary setting. The fact that it stacks 6-8 chairs high and comes with a 20-year warranty makes it a real winner for an elegant function space or college dining hall. Transporter Click for a larger view. The Transporter is a custom-made hand truck to transport individual stacks of our stackable chairs. Once moved to storage, the chair stack sits on the floor, so you only need to buy as many transporters as you have people moving chairs at any one time; we recommend one transporter per 100 chairs. Each Transporter is custom-made to the individual chair model so that there will be no damage to the chairs, and it is finished in the same finish as your chairs.
